Acupuncture Works

Chinese Medicine is a system of healing that has been honed and refined over thousands of years. It believes that good health depends on the free flow of energy running throughout the body. When this energy flow becomes disturbed, the result is pain or illness.

By diagnosing where the disturbance lies, acupuncture aims to bring your system back into balance, to stimulate your own healing response and to promote harmony on every level - physical and emotional.

An integrated approach

Julia is an integrated practitioner, combining both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Five Element Acupuncture in her treatments.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is unrivalled in its ability to make a diagnosis of specific ailments, and then to provide relief for these symptoms as well as their underlying causes.

Five Element Acupuncture is an ancient system of acupuncture that works according to your individual constitutional type. Julia uses objective measures to identify your type, then chooses particular acupuncture points that treat deeply at a root level and promote greater harmony.

Used in combination, these two systems form a powerful healing tool. They work holistically, while also treating you as an individual, unique in diagnostic terms.

What does it feel like?

The needles used are very fine and are not painful. The sensation felt is often described as a tingling or dull ache. Patients often report feeling relaxed or invigorated during and after treatment.

What happens on my first visit?

Your first consultation may take a little longer - about an hour. In this session we discuss your current symptoms and take a detailed health history so we can create an individual treatment plan. You'll also receive some acupuncture. Follow up sessions last about 45 minutes.

How often will I receive treatment?

As each person and their condition is unique, the number of treatments needed can vary. Most patients attend weekly for the first few sessions, then treatments become less frequent.

Patients often report feeling much better in themselves, with increased energy levels, better concentration and an enhanced sense of wellbeing. As a result, they come back every few months or seasonally for maintenance and preventative treatments.

How much does it cost?

You're welcome to come for a free initial consultation of 15 minutes to discuss if acupuncture can help you. Alternatively, we can discuss this on the phone.

The first full treatment costs £50. Subsequent treatments are at a cost of £40; per session. Julia also has a limited number of spaces available at concessionary rates for students and children and those on benefits or low income. Payment is made by cash or cheque.

If you need to cancel your acupuncture appointment please give 24 hours' notice. This allows other people to use the appointment, particularly as there can be a waiting list.
